EDM Co op Hot Shots

(Judges’ roll call from left: Kelvin and Gareth Gay from SAFRA Photographic Club, Melvin Lau of Multifolds Productions, SNCF CEO Dolly Goh, Goh Kim Hui of The Photography Society of Singapore, Alan Lim of School of Photography Singapore and David Phey of Weekender Singapore.)

Fresh off the conclusion of our annual Co-op Hot Shots photography competition, our panel of judges gathered at The Photography Society of Singapore (PSS) on 12 August 2015 to shortlist the Top 20 submissions for each category. It was certainly a tall order for them as we received a total of 1513 submissions – our best year yet!

When we asked Melvin from Multifolds Productions on what he looked out for in pictures, his reply was this: “Technicalities of a photo is not important in Hot Shots, however, the story behind and how the message is being sent strongly to viewers is more important.”

We’ll be posting up the Top 20 shortlisted submissions from each category and the winners on our Facebook page @SNCF Singapore & Instagram account @sncf_singapore so do keep a look out!

EDM WWSS Journey Wall

(Westwoodians finding answers to our quiz questions)

The Journey Wall made its way to Westwood Secondary School on 11 August 2015 and the students were a lively bunch, giving our Campus & Youth team a run for its money by actively seeking out answers to the quiz questions given to them. Esther from the Campus & Youth team also gave an assembly talk to the students in the morning.

"I like that co-operatives value together-ness." said Lim Zhi Xin, a student at the school. The journey wall will make its way next to Bedok View Secondary School!

EDM Co op NTU

(From left: Co-op@NTU Chairman Kevan, SNCF Scholar Ingewati and SNCF’s Sarah from Campus & Youth)

One of our campus co-ops, Co-op@NTU, set up a booth for membership recruitment on 12 August 2015 and the SNCF Campus & Youth team was present to lend its support to them. It was their first taste of evangelising the co-operative movement to their peers and it was heartwarming to see them enthusiastically spreading the message in their efforts to get new members!

Co-op@NTU sells t-shirts, and products from social and student enterprises where profits go back to the enterprises or be used as bursaries and scholarships which NTU students can enjoy. Members get 10 to 15% discount at the co-op café & store and hands-on experience practising accounting, events management, administration, business management and marketing.

EDM Mike Bracken

(Co-operative Group’s new Chief Digital Officer Mike Bracken)

The Co-operative Group has appointed Mike Bracken as its new chief digital officer in charge of the society’s digital content and strategy. Mr Bracken has 20 years of experience in internet and social change and has spent the last five years helping the UK government with its digital transformation.

“The co-operative movement is close to my heart,” he wrote. “The values and ethics of co-operatives are more relevant in society today than they have ever been and are highly congruent with the open internet. The Group has millions of members, and its 70,000-plus colleagues are some of the most committed and community-spirited I have met.”

As of 17 October 2016, the Code of Corporate Governance for credit co-operatives has been updated.

EDM Heng Swee kiat

(Mr Heng Swee Keat writing a message on our Journey Wall at Catholic Junior College)

We were really honoured when Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister of Education, stopped by our Journey Wall exhibition at Catholic Junior College earlier today. He was even kind enough to leave a message for the students!

EDM SNCF Staff

(SNCF Staff showing just how patriotic they can be)

The Staff Recreation Club of SNCF was tasked with organizing an activity to tie in with national day and that they did – through a staff amazing race! With stops such as Kampong Glam, National Museum and the Indian Heritage Centre, the activity was aimed at refreshing our memories on our country's storied history while giving us the opportunity to get to know our colleagues better.

The final stop was at Esplanade where we formed the number 50 at the courtyard to mark our country's 50th birthday before proceeding to have dinner at Mischief restaurant. Happy 50 years Singapore!
