Mr Tan Kian Chew

Up Close with Mr. Tan Kian Chew,
Chairman of Central Co-operative Fund (CCF) Committee

How did you start with the co-operative movement?

My association with the cooperative movement dated back in 1983. I was appointed to the board of NTUC FairPrice as Ministry of Trade and Industry’s representative. My role was to help FairPrice achieve its mission in moderating the cost of living.

What do you think are the key challenges that co-operatives in Singapore face?

Cooperatives in Singapore face the same challenges as many companies in Singapore do, ie increasing cost of doing business. Hence it is important that they improve productivity of their operations.

What are your future plans for CCF moving forward?

CCF will find ways to help cooperatives to grow in size so as to be more productive and competitive. It is only through size that you can enjoy economy of scale, bargaining strength, and built up capabilities to help you compete better in the market place. A bigger cooperative will help you deliver greater value to the customers that we aim to serve.

What sort of legacy would you like to leave behind?

All the cooperatives in Singapore should aim to grow in size and strength, and be among the pioneer in CSR adoption.

What are your three most important management philosophies that you live by?

Customer focus, professionalism and team work have been my guiding philosophies in managing business success in NTUC FairPrice. And I believe these values are relevant to all the cooperatives in Singapore.

What are your hobbies?

In my leisure hours, I like to watch documentaries and sport channels. I also like to play badminton, once a week.

There are many forms of training and learning opportunities for caregivers to deepen their skills and knowledge in the capacity as a caregiver. And have you wondered what type of learning abilities you have to effectively pickup these skills. Knowing individual learning preferences helps caregivers learn and pick up training and courses easiest to absorb and understand. Likewise, for caregivers who are ready to return to the workforce, learning preferences is an enabling awareness towards selection of courses or learning platforms to quickly regain that foothold in the corporate world once again.

Intended outcome

This session will focus on a simple worksheet to lead individuals to discover the learning preferences and the best way to learn for each type of learner.

RSVP: Call 6536 3648.
